SAHA and the National Archives win Golden Key Award at National Information Officers Forum

Congratulations to the National Archives and the South African History Archive (SAHA) for winning Golden Key Awards: the National Archives, together with ESKOM and the Department of Environmental Affairs for “Most Responsive Public Bodies” and SAHA for “The Most Active Civil Society User of the Promotion of Access to information Act, 2000 (PAIA)”. These awards were made at a recent National Information Officers Forum (NIOF) hosted by the South African Human Righs Commission (SAHRC) on International Right to Know Day.

The SAHRC recognises best practice in the implementation of PAIA, and acknowledges entities and organisations which model openness, responsiveness and information sharing through the annual Golden Key Awards. It does this in accordance with its mandate to promote the right to access information and monitor compliance with the legislation. In addition to the Golden key Awards, the SAHRC offers training and assistance to Deputy Information Officers in governmental bodies and hosts a National Information Officers Forum(NIOF) in partnership with the Open Democracy Advice Centre (ODAC) to provide a platform for Deputy Information Officers and implementers of PAIA to interact with experts, share the challenges of implementation and exchange best practice tools.

The Archival Platform commends the SAHRC, ODAC, NIOF and especially our colleagues at SAHA and the National Archives for making good on the Constitutional promise of the right of access to information.
