African Programme in Museum and Heritage Studies: UNIVERSITY OF THE WESTERN CAPE - ROBBEN ISLAND MUSEUM CENTRE for HUMANITIES RESEARCH
Do you want to be involved in changing the way that Africa is depicted through its heritage agencies, monuments, museums and tourism agencies? If you do, this creative and exciting programme is for you.
The programme is offered in a partnership involving the Robben Island Museum and the University of the Western Cape in South Africa.The programme aims to contribute to the transformation of the heritage sector on the African continent, and to equip graduates with skills and understanding of the sector as well as the competencies relevant to heritage work. Participants will engage in theoretical debates in the field of heritage and museology while at the same time undertaking practical projects.
The programme is presented by academics, professionals and practitioners from the participating institutions as well as organizations and institutions in the heritage sector. The programme offers the possibilities of two qualifications:
1.) POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MUSEUM AND HERITAGE STUDIES
This diploma has been designed to provide ‘fast-track’ education and training for staff already working in the heritage, museum and tourism sector, as well as those interested in a career in these sectors. The diploma is of one-year’s duration. It is inter-disciplinary in nature and is open to graduates of all disciplines, or to non-graduates who should have at least five years meaningful practical experience in the museum and heritage sector.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Diploma is able to offer a limited number of scholarships (fees,airfares, accommodation costs, stipends) to successful applicants.
ACCOMMODATION
Self-catering accommodation will be offered on Robben Island and/or in University residences for postgraduate diploma students.
APPLICATION
Those wishing to apply can request forms by telephoning the office of the African Programme in Museum and Heritage Studies. All applicants are required to complete a written assignment as part of their application submission. Applicants must indicate whether they wish to be considered for a scholarship and whether they wish to be considered for the Postgraduate Diploma or the Masters’ degree.

2.) MA DEGREE WITH A SPECIALIZED STREAM IN MUSEUM AND HERITAGE STUDIES
This is for students who have excelled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Museum and Heritage Studies and for students who have an appropriate honours level postgraduate qualification in a cognate discipline.Prospective students must make enquiries directly to;

Im working as a site manager at one of the few heritage sites in Lesotho and id like to do a post- graduate study on museum and heritage stuides on a part-time basis as im not eligible to a study leave
Im cultural educational officer in Malawi which i work hand in hand with the Museum of Malawi, through that i also produce a weekly program on Malawi Television (MBCtv)on culture and Heritage. Im intrested to this course i know that it can help me and the country of Malawi i aplyed in 2010 but i did not make it. Please help me.
I am Elina Hamunyela, Namibian. I am working as culture officer for 12 years. I would like to futher my study in this field of study, since the university of Namibia can not offer this study.
