Call for submissions: Protection of Information Bill

The Ad Hoc Committee on Protection of Information Legislation (National Assembly) invites interested individuals and organizations to submit written submissions on the Protection of Information Bill [B6 – 2010].

The Protection of Information Bill seeks: To provide for the protection of certain information from destruction, loss or unlawful disclosure; to regulate the manner in which information may be protected; to repeal the Protection of Information Act, 1982; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

The draft Bill (B28 2008), circulated in 2008 was widely criticised. It is attached for your information, together with the submission made to Ad Hoc Committee on Intelligence Legislation by the South African History Archive and the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

The Archival Platform and the Nelson Mandela Foundation are preparing a joint submission on the Protection of Information Bill (B6 2010) circulated earlier this month.
