CODESA archive to be listed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register

The archives of the Convention for a Democratic South Africa (CODESA) and the Multi-Party Negotiation Process (MPNP) have been nominated for inclusion on the UNESCO Memory of the World Archive in 2011.

CODESA was established to bring about an undivided South Africa, free from apartheid and discrimination; to work to heal the divisions of the past; to strive to improve the quality of life for all South Africans through economic development and social justice; to create a climate conducive to peaceful constitutional change; and to set in motion the drawing up of a new Constitution. Nineteen South African political parties took part in the talks and a Declaration of Intent was signed. With this document all the parties committed themselves to the principles of a new democratic order in South Africa
