The 18th of May is just around the corner. Museums all around the world are saving the date and offering innovative activity programmes for International Museum Day, which is greatly anticipated by the worldwide museum community.
In Paris, France, the musée des Arts et Métiers will explore the era of major discoveries and take us to another dimension to the rhythm of Foucault’s pendulum. Demonstrations will take place twice a day (at 12pm and 5pm).
In Africa, the National Museum Ataoja’s Palace in Osobgbo, Nigeria, is holding a two-day conference in an attempt to understand why and how museums help us to preserve memories of the past. A quiz will take place for students to encourage them to preserve their memory of the country’s cultural heritage and history.
At the National Sports Museum in Melbourne, Australia, sporting heroes recall aloud their great sporting memories, which enriched the country’s sporting history. Meanwhile, the Mont de Lancey Museum is taking visitors on a journey that focuses on the migration of families from Madagascar to Melbourne.
The Barbados Museum and Historical Society in Bridgetown is offering a number of activities during the month of May, starting with an exhibition in the form of a visual and audio documentary of Barbadian Second World War veterans.
