Join the International Council of Museums (ICOM)

Join ICOM and then join one of its international committees.

ICOM’s International Committees are special interests groups that focus on particular aspects of museum work from exhibitions to management, security, conservation, collections management, research, history, science, etc. Each International Committees strives to promote skills and professional standards within its own particular disciplines.

ICOM membership automatically includes the benefits that International Committees have to offer. Furthermore ICOM head office allocates part of your fees to the International Committees to which you belong. By joining specific Interntational Committees members will receive regular information, have opportunities to attend conferences and participate more actively in their specialist fields.

The importance of International Committees is reflected in the programme for the Triennial ICOM General Assembly and General Conference to be held in Shanghai in November 2010.  The bulk of the week’s activities (8-12 November) is taken up with meetings and conferences of the International Committees.

ICOM-SA will be represented at ICOM Shanghai 2010 by the Chairperson, Secretary/Treasurer and the Board’s Portfolio member for Membership Recruitment. Prior to attending the Shanghai conference, they will need to establish which International Committees ICOM-SA members have joined (and which are therefore being subsidised, or, in ICOM terms, receive a subvention from our national committee).
