The chapters in this edited volume come out of an Africa 2009 workshop on impact assessment for cultural heritage places. The papers discuss the legislation requiring cultural heritage impact assessment (HIA), usually linked to environmental impact assessment (EIA) and how it has been implemented in various African countries, such as Nigeria, South Africa, the Sudan, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
