Funder: Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA)
The MDDA aims to help build an environment where a diverse, vibrant and creative media flourishes and reflects the needs of all South Africans. One of its main aims is to encourage ownership and control of, and access to, media by historically disadvantaged communities. The MDDA promotes media diversity and development by providing financial and other support to community and small commercial media projects. Whether they are involved in small commercial print media or community media projects, beneficiaries are offered mentorship, monitoring and evaluation, and are given in-depth knowledge to help them manage and improve their programmes. Training programmes in areas such as financial management are offered to all beneficiaries. In the main, the MDDA promotes media development and diversity by:
* providing grants and subsidies to media projects
* leveraging resources and support through technical assistance
* facilitating capacity-building, and
* advocating for media diversity.
