Taalmuseum reading room
This new facility forms part of the museum’s plans to make their archive more accessible and establish a research centre.
The basis of the museum library contains four major collections of early Afrikaans books, namely the collections of well-known language specialists professors PJ Nienaber and DJ Kotzé, FCL Bosman (well-known theatre and drama historian) and RFM Immelman (renowned ex-librarian of the University of Cape Town). These collections were obtained largely through the mediation of professors Nienaber and Kotzé.
The rate for research in the reading room is R30 for a half day, and R50 for a full day. The museum researcher also offers a professional research service to clients at an hourly rate.
The reading room is also available for hire as a venue for small meetings and lectures.
